Chickin Away

Hello Nomad friends.  I'm here with some bird inspired inspiration for the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity No Body Here challenge.   We want you to leave your people at home and show us anything but humanoids on your stamped anythings.  I went with Carmen's Veranda Duck and that lovely checkered swirl from Lost Coast Designs.   I think it's gonna be well used......

Gotta love a cute duck!!!   I stamped the swirl on a piece of white card, fussy cut a bit of the edge and then used a Funky Fossil tag die to cut the rest of the tag.  I stamped Carmen's Veranda Duck on a piece of yellow card, added some promarker colour to beak and feet and fussy cut.  I stamped Lost Coast Designs Party Words and then added duck and a little snowball wool.

If you have a moment do hop over to the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity and check out all the amazing art and free tutorials from my awesome team mates.  Join the challenge for a chance to win a real rubber stamp prize.  Hope to see you there.

Pink Hearts and Weird Ducks

Hello Nomad friends.  I have had a bit of a make-it weekend.  Despite an impromptu party last evening.  I just had to ink up this cool Carabelle Studio duck Jo sent me.

I kept it simple with one of my favourite Carmen's Veranda sentiments.

Ducking Funny

Hello Nomad friends.  I hope you are having a great day.

Today I am over at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity for the start of the new challenge where we want to see your stamped anythings featuring Birds!   Easy peasy, join the fun.  I grabbed the awesome Duck from Carmen's Veranda and made a set of bottle tags.

Duck!   You are so sassy!!   Thought these would be perfect to decorate some festive spirits bwahahahaaahaaa.  I used a selection of spirited sentiments also from Carmen's Veranda and stamped Lost Coast Designs Grunge Border 2" tone on tone onto some orange die cut bottle tags.  I used an Avery Elle die.

Now it's your turn.  Are you up for the challenge?  We can't wait to see your projects!  Submit your entries in the linky party by 23.59 PST on the 30th and don't forget to follow us so you don't miss anything!  The team will be posting more inspiration throughout the month so check back and join the fun.

Rockin Duck

Hello Portal peeps.  It's the second of the month so time for the Card Chain Challenge reveal and this card went to Dawn in New Zealand.  Rockin' duck also fits the new Lost Coast Portal to Creativity Rock or Pop Challenge -  include a pop up element or make a rocking card.  I love rocking cards.  These are actually really easy to make.  You can cut a circle, fold it in half and use that as your card base.  Or you can take a tent fold card base and use scissors or dies to cut the bottom edge into a curve.  Then decorate it as you like......

I used Studio Light journal dies to cut the yellow card base and matching green mat, and, just because the die was in this set, I decided to add semi-circular pocket to my project.   I stamped the green panel with green ink and two stamps from Lost Coast Designs Pieces of Calligraphy set.  I stamped the brown mat on the little pocket with brown ink and Lost Coast Designs Mini Butterfly Collage stamp.  I die cut a scrap of the green card with a grass die and added a bit of promarker scribblings.  I stamped Carmen's Veranda Duck on yellow card, coloured his beak and feet and fussy cut.   I was going to put a tea bag in the pocket, but I think they frown on such things in New Zealand, so I added some paper leaves instead.  Hopefully my exchange partner will be able to use them for something crafty.

And when the leaves are taken away you can see the Happy Everything sentiment which is from Lost Coast Designs Party Words set.

I hope you take some time to check out all the fun interactive Rock and Pop cards the team are sharing this month, and don't forget to join the fun for a chance to win Lost Coast dollars.

Vicarious Ducks

Hello Nomad friends.  I hope things are going well in your part of the world.  Norway says everyone can come and visit from next week!!  Personally I think it would have been better to wait a few weeks and see what opening up to European visitors brings, but they don't seem to think like me!!  Time will tell.......   Personally I am staying in my own little space, which isn't too much of a hardship cos there is plenty of gardening and crafting to keep me busy.  Hopefully the sun will be back soon and I can add sitting in the sun doing nothing to my list of important things to accomplish.  Since today is a bit of a grey day I made a card.

Call me Quackers but blue ducks on a steampunk background seemed to fit the bill for a number of challenges.  Ain't that punny!!!  OK, enough........

I was over at MFT earlier and they had a cool colour scheme and sketch so I based my design on both.  I stamped Crafty Individuals CI-499 Full Steam Ahead stamp on a neutral card panel with brown archival ink and added a dark teal mat behind.

The sketch has two overlapping circles.  I am using the stamped ship speedometer (anyone got the technical name for that????) for the smaller one and decided to use vellum for the larger one.  I cut a vellum circle, edged it with the brown ink and embossed with a pocket watch embossing folder.  Then I smeared with white ink to make the embossing a bit more prominant.

I put it all together on a kraft base.  I stamped Crafty Individuals Favourite Ducks CI-373 on pale blue card with teal-ish ink and fussy cut them.  The norwegian birthday greeting is a preprinted sentiment strip from a Kort og Godt designer paper sheet matted on the teal paper.

Thanks for dropping by.  Stay safe, keep well, be crafty.  HUGZ

Infinitely Weird

Hello Nomad friends.  I am slowly moving into August.  The warm weather continues and my brain cell is struggling to cope.  Today it went all weird and created Reinduck!!  The theme at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity is Anything Goes with real stamping as the focus of your Anything.  Here's mine.

Ahhhhh, well, yes indeed.  Stay Weird good people, Stay Weird!!  I used Carmen's Veranda Duck, Reindeer Doll and Stay Weird sentiment.  Lost Coast Designs Fourth Dimension stamp and Sizzix Splat die.  A perfectly weird pond if ever I saw one.

Hop over to the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity for all the details and the linky for the linking of your Anythings.  Don't forget to stamp!!  Hugz

Quacky Birthday

Hello. Welcome.  One girl and her duck with a floral background.  Sounds like a perfect birthday design!!

I used a piece of brown floral pp that came in a magazine.  It's a bit thin and glossy, and maybe a bit ugly, but seemed to make a great backdrop for this cute Pink and Main stamp, Tweet Friend.  Love that little duck!!  I used scraps to stamp the image, the Paperartsy birthday sentiment and also that bit of gold ground, which I cut with Stamplorations stitched snowy hills die.  I coloured the girl with distress inks and added a few enamel dots, two on the sentiment and one on the flower on her hat.

Chistmas Quackers

Hello.  Welcome.  I am having a blast visiting family and friends in the old country, eating good food and generally taking it easy.   There's a new challenge starting over at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity and the theme is Cute!

I decided to use the adorably cute Carmen's Veranda Duck and add a die cut glittery santa hat.  I smudged Mowed Lawn distress ink for the grass and the sentiment is from Lost Coast Designs Misc. Words.

And then I decided to make a matching tag.

What an adorable pair.

Quick Duck

Hello.  Welcome.  Dies R Us have a Kids Cards challenge.  But I decided I probably wasn't going to be making any kids cards.  Then an order, coincidentally from Dies R Us, made super quick time from the US.  Order to delivery 1 week!!  That's pretty swifty.  And inside was a die from Die-versions - Build an Animal 1.  So I decided to give it a test drive and build a duck.  Fastest duck in history.  Love it.

Neon duck!!!  The Die-versions Fence Background was also in the delivery.  I cut it from dark blue card and mounted on a blue metallic base.  Then I cut the Fuzzy Lemon? new baby heart from the same cards.

Frozen Duck

Hello.  Welcome.  So this all started with the wellie boots.  The challenges this year at The Craft Barn are a little different and I wasn't sure if I was going to play along, but then I decided it's good to get out of your comfort zone so.........

The challenge is working through the lines of a poem by Sara Coleridge, which I am not familiar with, but probably will be by the end of the year.   So, include the first two lines in the poem and a bird in a wellington boot!  Why?  Who knows.  That's why it's a challenge.  So I decided to start at the most challenging bit, which was actually the boot, or in my case boots.

The boots are borrowed from a girl in a sou'wester who came free with a magazine.  I stamped and embossed them on dark blue metal and fussy cut.  Then I chose my bird.  I decided a duck in wellies was a wonderful idea.  This is YNS Quackers stamped and embossed on pale blue metal.  I fussy cut him and the gold, red and mother of pearl colours are actually window paints (but that's a whole new blog post).  I decided to use a grey textured journaling card for my project.

I used silver sparkle paste through Stamplorations Swirly Bloom stencil.   Here's a picture that shows the sparkle.

I printed the poem lines on a piece of wintery paper and then did some tearing.  I layered the torn paper and placed an embossed die cut circle behind it with some bobbly white paper.  Then I added Quackers in his very fine boots. A bird in wellies.

Hello.  Welcome.  Another fortnight has whizzed by and I am making a final hour link to the Craft Barn Challenge.  The letter is W, and I have gone with Widgeon, a wild duck.

Well.......... he looks pretty wild to me!!!   I covered my playing card with a handmade background paper sent to me by Kristiina.  Isn't it gorgeous!  Thanks Kristiina.  Then I stamped YNS Quackers, added a quiff, coloured with some wild and retro sharpies and added him to my card.

Feeling Quackered

Hello.  Welcome.  Oof, having a bit of a day........

Just remembered I forgot the googly eyes.  Ah well, maybe he doesn't need them.  I've used the YNS sketch.  It's quite interesting despite the simplicity.  I stamped and embossed YNS Quackers and fussy cut.  The sentiment is a Unity stamp.  The black background is a scrap I found.  Just white paint lines on a piece of black card.  Sizzix swirly dots embossing folder.

Duck About Town and a Winner

Hello.  Welcome.  I am a member of the Things To Alter mixed media group on fb and we had an ATC swap.   This is the one I sent to Katie, and since it's arrived I thought I'd share it here.  I borrowed Katie's photo cos it was better than mine LOL.

I cut my base from some patterned card (Little Yellow Bicycle maybe?) added a piece of lace and a piece of MME stripey patterned card.  I stamped Whimsy Stamps Into The Farm on to kraft card and embossed.  I cut out the little adverts I wanted to use and added some colour.  I stamped Crafty Individuals Jolly Duck on to a piece of kraft paper that was printed with silver stars.  I added some colour to the duck.  I love that the little stars resisted the colour and they seem to be in such perfect places.  I edged with black soot distress ink.

Thanks to everyone who played my little game and for all the lovely comments last month. I put them all together, threw them up in the air and the last one standing was.....

Congrats Dora.  Drop me a message craftynomad at gmail dot com and I'll get the goodies winging their way to you.  Hugz

A Strange Thing Happened on the Way to the Kitchen

Hello.  Welcome.  A special hi and hello to Suchi.  So glad you have joined my happy little following.  Hugz all round for all my lovely followers and all you guys and gals lurking around the blogosphere.  So happy you took the time to visit my little corner.

So, over at Simon Says Stamp they want to see Tim Holtz stamps, and Country View want numbers, and Darnell wants NBUS, and she said she'd love to see really old virginal  NBUS.  Darnell, get ready to get happy cos I knew I had some of those blueprint stamps that I had never inked.  Meet the Game Wheel......

I used the sketch from Your Next Stamp.  I stamped Tim Holtz Game Wheel from Ringmaster Blueprints (NBUS) twice on Bazzill Mud Puddle.  I embossed one image and cut it out.  I soaked the Mud Puddle, ripped the edges, screwed it up, sort of flattened it out, added some Walnut Stain, abused it a bit more.  Looks a bit like old leather.  You got to get it really wet.  Impressed the embossing survived the abuse.  I stamped YNS Quackers (NBUS) also on Mud Puddle and coloured with Galaxy Markers.  I used a cornflower blue base card, black inked edges, with a cornflower blue layer, black inked edges.  The black card was embossed with Cheery Lynn Clocks embossing plate and I used Colorbox Alabaster chalk to highlight and give a chalkboard look.  I added some twine with a sailor type knot and don't ask why the duck is hovering on part of a Cheery Lynn Compass die cut.  It seemed like the way to go LOL.
