Neverending Pirates

Hello Nomad friends.  I made a neverending card today.  Thought it was going to be a neverending project bwaahahahahahahahaa.  If you are doing this you will discover if your cutting is accurate or not and make you question the actual length of a cm or inch!!!   Those four base pieces need to be perfect or it all goes horribly wrong before it begins.  But once the base is together it was really fun cutting lots of little bits to cover all the panels.

And here we are back at the beginning.  Loads of patterned paper used here.  OK, maybe not loads.  Loads of bits of patterned paper LOL.  I've had these pirate papers for a while and bits have been chopped out of them over the years.  The card is 15cm x 15cm so I pieced the patterns into the panels.  The little twin pirates are Marianne Design dies.

The Pirates Have Landed

Hello.  Welcome.  I am pleased to report that Katie's mail box is still standing and her slightly delayed Card Chain Challenge card from me has landed safely.  Regarding the Card Chain Challenge.  I admit, I have been getting a bit sloppy and picking the friends option, which is fine, but Deborah has spent considerable time and brain power putting together all the options for the challenge and I felt I was not doing them justice.  So this month I was really gripped by the idea of the themes - Pirates, In the jungle, Friends.  And while I was at it let's go with the colours, and maybe I can work in the sketch as well.  In my excitement to send it I missed adding the metal charm I was going to use, but overall I was pleased to hit 5 of the options available this month.  OK, ready for this?  Bright warning........

I do love Kadoodles Pirate Dan and he hasn't been out for a while.  So here we are, friendly pirates in the jungle using the colours and the sketch (vaguely!!  Should have remembered the metal charm!!  Or coconuts.  Coconuts would have been great!!!).  The flowers and trees are Sizzix die cuts from the Tropical set.  I ripped a piece of card for my ragged flag banner and used Rubber Dance sentiment stamps.  Pirate Dan is coloured with promarkers, distress ink and gold pilot marker.

You can check out the full reveal HERE.  Well worth a look.  Many awesome cards flew around the planet this month.
If you want to play along the October sign up is open until October 6th.

Shiver Me Timbers

Hello.  Welcome.  It's Birthday April!!  Needed another small man card, so went with the oh so cool Pirate Dan from Kadoodle stamps.

Pirate Dan was stamped with black Archival ink, fussy cut and coloured with Promarkers.  I used Worn Lipstick distress for his skin and gold pilot marker for his belt buckle and earring.  The background was actually an exercise in brush cleaning!  I just grabbed a scrap of card and brushed til no more dark blue acrylic paint came out, then washed the brush.  Then I looked at the card scrap and decided it was too pretty to throw away.  With the addition of a scrap of ripped yellow card and Die-Versions Beach Hut dies cut from black card it made a perfect beach scene for Pirate Dan.  The sentiment is from Rubber Dance Happy Birthday set stamped with Dare2BArtzy Midnight Blue dye ink.  I also used this ink to edge the card base and layer.

Davy Jones' Wallpaper

Hello.  Welcome.  Getting to grips with another of my altered playing cards and the letter B for the Craft Barn Dictionary challenge.

This time I have gone with a BURGUNDY BUCCANEER.  Oh my, this is too much fun.  B is for BELLY, BELT, BUCKLE.

I pieced my background from some patterned paper that was just a load of pirate buccaneer borders.  I cut them out and mixed them around to get what I envision the inside of a baby buccaneer's bedroom looks like.   And yes, of course baby buccaneers like glitter.  They are really into bling you know......  I stamped Kadoodle's Pirate Dan, coloured and fussy cut.  Definition courtesy of the Oxford English Dictionary.  BONES, BOATS (I claim poetic license) BARREL, BAREFOOT.  I feel another idea for a little competition coming on......

Thanks for your visit.  Have you checked out my Giveaway?  I will be counting comments up to the rise of the new moon.   Hugz

Artistic Smudger at Work

Hello.  Welcome.  I have been a little preoccupied with one of my hens today, who is hatching chicks as I write.  Very exciting.  I have seen one tiny little head, and heard peeping, but it's a bit like a sneak peek.  Have to wait for the full reveal.  Must be patient.  Very difficult.  But don't want mother hen to stand too soon.  Got to give them all the best chance to hatch.  Will keep you posted.

So this is what I fitted in today amid the excitement.  I started the background for the challenge at Mark's Finest Papers where they want die-cut designs.  I used Spellbinders Gold Circle 1 die set.  All of it.  First time I've used this so wasn't sure what I was going to get.  Some of the dies cut and some just emboss.  So just to see I used all at once and ended up with a lovely detailed doily cut from one of my brusho backgrounds.

So I have the pretty doily and I added Kadoodle Pirate Dan.  He is coloured with Promarkers and watercolour.  I stamped DRS Script Happy Birthday and black embossed.

On my purple base card I stamped DRS Interlocking Squares and embossed with dark green powder.  I cut Cheery Lynn Compass and placed behind the doily.  The corners are Cheery Lynn Mini Rum Punch doily cut in 4.  It seemed a bit unfinished so I tried this....

I smudged the edge of the card with Versamark and embossed with Wintergreen Pastel embossing powder.  I've had this so long and hardly used it.  I was afraid it might be dead, but it melted just fine.  Must use these bright colours on darks more often.

Ahoy Me Hearties

Hello.  Welcome.  Today was a very happy mail day.  I got some lovely tag dies I won as candy at Meghan's blog.  I got a large package from my lovely sister.  Sharpies, a frog tea strainer (very cute), a lovely pillow cover and some knickers.  She says you owe it to yourself to have nice knickers and I think last time she visited she wasn't impressed with some of the ones hanging on the line.  It always makes me laugh now when I hang out the laundry.   I also got my June Card Chain Challenge card from Jan, all the way from Alaska!!  Love it.  Such fantastic colours.  If you want to see it and all the other cards which have whizzed around the planet this month you need to check out the full reveal over at Society of Stampaholics.  But before you go, here's the card I sent to Monica

I used a blue base card and added a triangle of MME patterned paper.  I ran a piece of embroidery thread along the top of the triangle.  The phrase along the bottom is from a Crafty Individuals background paper.  The pirate and chest are Kadoodle stamps coloured with Promarkers and some Wink of Stella clear.  The friendship phrase stamp is from Crafty Individuals and I added some blue rhinestones.

If you want to join the fun at CCC this month you will find the link here and there is an added incentive this month.  In addition to getting a card there's also a chance to win a Hampton Art stamp set.  Win win anyway you look at it.

Ahoy! Me Heartys

Hi and welcome aboard.  Doing a bit of midnight crafting.  I have been trying to do a tag for the Basic Grey challenge using some lovely paper I got the other day but you know how you have an element you want to use and can't see past it to the design.  Maybe it's just me.  Anyway, I decided to have a little look around at some other challenges and see if they could break my jam and lo and behold, a light in the east, courtesy of the Craft-room Challenge where their bingo square worked perfectly for me.

For the bingo I've chosen to use middle straight across so it's rubber stamp, stencil or mask and brown.  The base tag is Basic Grey Offbeat Novel ofb-1390 which is a gorgeous chocolate brown with lovely white strings and bubbles.  So there's my brown.  The stamps I used are all from Kadoodle, Pirate Dan, Treasure Chest and Skull & Swords.  I stamped my pirate in black and then masked him and stamped the background using London Fog.  The yellow is Colourbox Chalk Butter.  I coloured Pirate Dan using Colourbox Chalks Plumeria, Arctic Deep and Peach Pastel and also American Craft Galaxy Markers in red, brown and black.  For the earring and the buckle I used a gold Pilot marker.  The silver charms are from Korthobby.  A little sword to see off unfriendly natives, a key to his treasure and a bone for the ships cat.  It's a tough cat OK!

I ripped around the edge of the image and used four black pearl brads in the corners.  Every pirate should have a few black pearls.  I distressed the tag edge and used a piece of homemade washi tape for the tie.  For details see here.
