Escaped Sock Monster Causes Crafty Chaos

Hello.  Welcome.  I am just trying to slip a last project or two into this year.  Wow, how scary is that.  Only a few hours til 2015.  Unless of course you are in Australia and it's probably already next year.  Wierd!!  I have decided that tidying my crafty space is going to be a priority for 2015.  It seems the sock monster, the one who usually lives in the washing machine eating the odd sock, has relocated to my desk.  Every time I put something down it vanishes!  Sock Monster seems to be branching out into glue, flowers and pencils!!  Maybe he's got the crafty bug LOL

Over at PaperArtsy there has been a fab week of #3UP inspiration to top off an amazing semester of inspiration.  I loved the stencil feature and especially liked Claire's bumping.  I have had mixed sucess with this in the past but decided to give it another go.  Result - mixed sucess.......

I decided to start with the flower embellishments.  I painted a piece of card with Fresco Finish Inky Pool, Pea Coat and Butternut.  I did some mad spritzing with gold shimmer spray and stamped with JOFY15.

I cut them out and layered them with a mini brad in the center.  The leaves are from JOFY34.

Uhhh.....  OK, forgot to take more photo's so here's the finished project.  I don't usually talk about mistakes, mostly cos I hope no one else sees them, but maybe I'll let you in on my mixed success.  I was pleased with the white and blue stencil bump at the top using PS007.  The bullrushes from the same stencil were less successful.  I used Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain distress inks and I think a bit more contrast is required for this technique.  I have just achieved fat bullrushes with a bit of shadow.  And I have no idea what that fat little bird is doing there!!  Where's the flowers? I hear you cry.  Well the sock monster had one.  I'll probably find it stuck to the cat later.  I had this bird cut out for a project the other day and he looked so cute I just stuck him on.  That messed it all up!!  So I scrabbled around and found the cute flower border in the Bloom set, stamped the tree from JOFY 34 and tweeted all over the place.  I splashed a bit of Stormy Sky distress ink around the edges and randomly on the card to finish.

Cow On A Hot Pink Bike

Hello.  Welcome.  Combining this fun Penny Black stamp with the hot bright colour combination over at the Rubber Dance Challenge.  Fun, fun, fun......

I stamped Penny Black ....for a spin and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I coloured the image with sharpies and coloured pencils.  I used a Prima mask with Picked Raspberry distress ink in the center of the card, Dusty Concord at the bottom and Salty Ocean distress ink for the sky.  I stamped PaperArtsy's birthday on a die cut arrow and tried to write a matching happy on the other arrow, coloured with Picked Raspberry and edged with Dusty Concord.

Harvest Moon

Hello.  Welcome.  I've been playing a lot recently with masks and decided to combine a simple circle mask with Die-Namites Windy Wheat die to make this card.

I cut a circle from a piece of card and used various yellow distress inks to make the moon.  Then I masked it and used various blue and purple distress inks to make the night sky.  It's a bright night!.  Full moon and all that!!  I cut Die-Namites Windy Wheat from silver metal.  The sentiment is a Crafty Individuals stamp on a raised panel with inky edges to match the background.

Birdie on a Tree

Hello.  Welcome.  A special hi and hello to Vickie Y.  So glad you joined my lovely followers.  Hugz all round.  Tonights card was inspired by Anneke's post over at PaperArtsy.  Loved the tree she made from circles.

I coloured some card with limelight fresco finish paint and hooker green and turquoise acrylic.  I cut lots of circles and stamped with the flower stamp from PaperArtsy's Bloom set.  I cut a pot and arranged on a glittery card.  I added some tiny buttons and the smallest bird from JOFY15.

Very Punny

Hello.  Welcome.  Happy Birthday dear Sister, Happy Birthday To You.  HUGZ.  This is the sight that met me this morning when I got up

Everything white and hammering down with snow.  That's our garden and the red building is where all the stuff for the animals is.  Rabbits to the left of it, chickens to the right.  Not that the chickens have been out much today.  The ground's the wrong colour!!  There's a fjord usually visible far right and mountains all around, but it's a bit of a white out so you will just have to take my word for it.

The end of the month and the end of the year!!  Over at STAMPlorations there's a lovely sketch which I used for this card.  Whilst hunting for circles and viewing my STAMPloration stamps I spotted this Sizzix die and thought it would be fun with the STAMPlorations sentiment.  I've used a whole load of my favourite techniques on this card.  There's stamps, and dies, distressing and inking the edges and using masks (for the circles).  I cut the die from MME patterned paper and coloured with Promarkers.  I love how these let the text show through and how you can add shades with the same marker by just adding more colour.  That's my kind of colouring.

Ebony, Ivory, Living In Perfect Harmony

Hello.  Welcome.  I can hear you singing it.  Go on, admit it.  Over at The Craft Barn it's the final Q&L Challenge.  I haven't managed all of the years challenges but I've joined in with quite a few.  This time I chose a lyric rather than a quote.  I've used the refrain from Ebony and Ivory, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder.

Since I still had my brayer and paints out I decided to do another inky background.  I've gone a bit more purple, orange, yellow and heavy on the white smudges to counteract the darker colours.  Using Kaisercraft Grafitti and Unity Chickenwire stamps.

The song talks about keyboards and people so I decided to try my very poor painting skills to give me a keyboard type thingy.  OK, not exactly the perfect rendition I had in mind and I can't believe I covered up that lovely painty background!!  Although some of it is still peeking through.  Then I realised I had a problem.  With it being all  black and white do I write with a black or a white pen??  Uhhhhh......  So I decided to write my quote with my stripes.  Then I had visions of zebras.  ???

My writing didn't come out as well as I would have liked but I do like the stripey legs and arms.  They are from a Flonzcraft stamp set called Zebra Hands and Legs.  Funky.  They look like they are dancing along.   Another fun sign for the smallest room.

Splash It All Over

Hello.  Welcome.  Have you checked out the fun at PaperArtsy??  It #3UP time and the stars of the show are us, your everyday bloggers.  Last night Crafty Nomad's design team was one of the players.  Ooh, that's me LOL.  Some amazing projects this week and it's all about techniques so go check it out. I was inspired by Margaret's masterboard project.

I started by brayering various yellow/orange acylic paints onto my piece of card.  Then I grabbed some Kaisercraft and Unity background stamps.  I stamped in black and white paint and then used a credit card to add some smears and stripes.

I loved Margaret's cards she made.  This one is made from cut pieces of the masterboard laid out as a border with doodled edges.  I stamped an image from HP1103 onto a piece of the masterboard, cut it out and distressed the edges.

Still much masterboard left.  I copied another card style to make this one using the large heart from HP1105 stamped  onto Chatsworth paper.  The cute sentiment is another stamp from HP1103 also onto the masterboard.

So That Was Christmas

Hello.  Welcome.  A special hi and hello to Massofhair.  So glad you have joined my elite following.  LOL.  Hugz to all my followers and friends.  Hope you had a lovely Christmas Day.  Did Santa bring you all the goodies on your list?  Do you have a list?  I have one for crafty goodies which undoubtedly will be getting bigger again soon as everyone launches their new ranges for 2015.  Gosh, 2015!!  I must admit I didn't really get into the Xmas spirit and since it's over I can stop thinking about all the Christmas cards I didn't make and move onto other things.  How about Chinese New Year??  Over at Marks Finest Papers there's an Oriental Sketch Challenge and I combined this with Cheery Lynn's gorgeous Koi Fish die.

I started with a black base card and added a gold and red layer.  On the red layer I used the small round stamp from PaperArtsy LPC022 set.  I cut Cheery Lynn Tiny Bubbles Border from red and gold card and layered them on black.  I removed all the big bubbles from the gold layer but only some of them from the red layer so you see both the red and the black peeking through.  Quite like that look.  I cut two circles and a square from gold mirror card and layered them on black.  The fish is Cheery Lynn Koi Fish cut from gold metal and some card I coloured with distress inks.  I paper pieced the negative metal cuts into the coloured body.  Love the detail on this cut.  Hugz

God Jul 2014

Hello.  Welcome.  God Jul.  That's Merry Christmas, Norwegian style.  I know some of you are waiting for the big day but for us in Scandinavia, much of Europe and other places as well, today is the day we stuff ourselves silly and exchange gifts.  So here I sit, stuffed silly and a couple of pressies richer.  Thought I'd share some Christmas makes.  I have been expanding on the uncoloured stamp and stencil technique I used here.  I love this look so there may will be some more makes along this line.  Do let me know when I start to bore you.

I really liked the Dreamweavers Waves and Dots stencil so I used it again with Unity Stamp Co. Owl Pals and blue distress inks.  I masked the owls before stenciling.  I have clipped around the edge with a hole punch, just for the fun of it, and mounted on a blue base card touched with Faded Jeans distress ink.  The sentiment is from Unity's Snowpeep Grant set.  I did some doodling with a black sharpie to give more dimension to the 'ground'.

Then, cos it was just too much fun, I decided to try it with a different stencil.  This one is home made.  I used Simon Says Stamp Luminary Circles die to cut a mask.  I used the same distress inks and started with the largest circle behind my masked owls.  Then I put the large circle negative cut back in the mask and moved it around just stenciling the smaller elements.  I really like this one as well.  The same, but different.

Poor Man's Pac Man

Hello.  Welcome.  Jack had a birthday.  Happy Birthday Jack.  Jack really likes dinosaurs and I had an idea to make a shaker card.  I hope you like it Jack.

I've used Paper Smooches Cuteasaurus set.   When I saw the pile of stones in their picture perfect challenge I thought the rocks in this set would be perfect.  Turns out you can have piles of dinosaurs as well!!   I stamped the different stamps on shrink plastic and coloured with pro-markers.  A whole load of very cute shrinkies.  I've used foam to space my shaker element.

I stamped the leaves from the Cuteasaurus set onto a piece of Craftwork cards patterned paper.  Then I decided a straight shaker was a bit boring so I added some ramps and stuck some trees and rocks at the ends to keep it interesting.

Then I filled it with dinos, sequins and a few beads.  OK, yeah, it's a bit busy and the dinos and rocks are all in piles.  I'm sure Jack will shake them into submission.

I used a piece of handmade paper on the front of the shaker element.  I think this is made from banana leaves.  Good texture.  I added stamped leaves, rocks, bones and dinos.  This shows the difference between the stamp size and the shrunk size.  I added a hopefully humorous computer generated text.  I stamped the leaves on a piece of green paper and have used this behind the shaker and also cut parts of the leaves to disguise the ramps.  Hoping it's a hit.  Hugz

I used Cheery Lynn Spring Flower Burst doily cut from gold glitter card and Cheery Lynn Snowflake 2 cut from blue glitter card.  I backed it with blue card cut using the doily angel wing.  I added some wool fibers and a gold snowflake brad.  Pretty, simple and quick, just what we need for the silly season.

Outside the Box

Hello.  Welcome.  I still have a couple of xmas cards to make but couldn't resist using this cute doggy stamp that arrived from DRS today.  Their challenge is Sing It To Me, be inspired by a song.  The first thing that sprang to mind was 'How Much is That Doggie in The Window?' and it goes a bit like this.

I decided to make a doghouse with windows.  It ended up a very tall doghouse.  I used Poppystamps Madison House dies for the windows and the roof.  The bell over the door is part of Poppystamps Antique Lamp Post.  I cut all these pieces from gold mirror card.  I masked and stamped Doggy Dillema, once for the top window, many times for the bottom one.  So, how much is that doggie in the window?  The one with the waggley tail??

I put my very tall dog house on a white card and added some white glitter hills, because after all, it is that time of the year LOL

Alternative Transport

Hello.  Welcome.  This card is a play on words, in Norwegian.  I'm wheely quite impressed with myself.  Must wheely be getting the hang of the lingo LOL

OK, so a not too Christmassy Christmas card.  It's a Norwegian pun thing.  God Jul means Happy Christmas.  Hjul, which sounds kinda the same, means wheel, hence the cycle.  And the Santa hat is to help get the joke across.  I'm sure it's lost a lot in the translation........   I used rainbow corrugated card, Hero Arts stamp with matching sizzix die and sizzix alphadies for the letters.

Bee Happy

Hello.  Welcome.  Still struggling to find a modicum of the Christmas spirit.  And I don't mean vodka!!  Do you think it would help??   Decided to do a couple more of my Altered Playing Cards a la Claudine.  It's week 13 already.  That's half way and my pack is shaping up nicely.  This week Claudine was all about bees.

I used yellow and brown paint and then stamped with two Kaisercraft stamps, Arty and Graffiti.

The bee was cut from some Authentique patterned paper and the honeycomb strip and the pastel hexagons are MME patterned paper.  I cut letters using dies and I've used Wild Honey and Frayed Burlap distress inks on the ripped edges.

The same yellow paint with some yellow Dylusions ink as well.   I added Frayed Burlap with Memory Box Honeycomb mask and some more of the MME honeycomb paper

I cut some of the pastel hexagons from the MME paper and added some ripped script paper.  I cut a bee from the Authentique paper and the sentiment is a Unity Stamp Co. stamp.

Christmas Traveler

Hello.  Welcome.  Here's a little non-traditional Christmas card for all you travelers.  Especially if you will be spending Christmas in a warm climate.

Over at Cheery Lynn the theme is red and green which inspired  me to colour High Hopes Snowbird red.  I usually go with blue but he looks quite good in the hot colours as well.  I cut Cheery Lynn's English Tea Party doily from green paper and backed it with red glitter card.  Then I added a Cheery Lynn compass cut from green glitter card.  The backing paper is Dovecraft and the ribbon reads God Jul, which is Norwegian for Merry Christmas.

Softly Softly

Hello.  Welcome.  I must admit I don't usually reach for the pink but over at Unity the new challenge is a lovely blend of soft pinks, blue and grey with an inspiration photo that made me reach for the baby pink glitter card for some added sparkle.

For the sentiment and the bird I used Unity Stamp Co. Precious Things set.  I cut my layers with a Crafts Too die set.  The grey layer has been stamped with Unity Stamp Co. Butterfly Collage and Memento London Fog ink.

The Boys In Blue

Hello.  Welcome.  When making my banner I realised that these would make lovely tags for a small gift or even tree ornaments.   So I cut some in blue.  Don't they look cute.

I've used Sizzix Snow set of dies with co-ordinating Hero Arts stamps.  I've left the ribbons long so they can get tied on the tree, or stuck to a present.  These are fun and quick.  Just what we need at this busy time of year.  I think I may have to go and make some more of these since my tree is going to be blue and gold and these will fit perfectly.  Hugz

A Little Bit of Christmas Cheer

Hello.  Welcome.  Still having trouble getting into the Ho Ho Ho so thought I'd try a little Christmas project to jingle it up a bit around here.  I've used the Sizzix Snow set, which is a set of dies and Hero Arts Stamps to make a very simple banner.

Please to excuse very poor photos.  I got my spacing sorted on the banner only to realize I needed to squidge them up a bit to be able to photo, and my backdrop could have done with an iron!!

I stamped the snowmen and die cut them.  Then I used the lable die to cut green and red glitter card.  I have coloured my snowmen green and red to match the tags.  I die cut God Jul, that's Norwegian for Merry Christmas, and added a bit of ribbon to the top of each.

Hoping these happy little snowfolk will help get me in the spirit.

Feel The Love

Hello.  Welcome.  Over at Penny Black and More the challenge is major occasions.  I decided Valentines is a major occasion, and it gave me an excuse to use this sweet cat.  Gotta love those shorts....

I coloured Penny Blacks How Do I Love Thee? with sharpies and pencils.   I added a button and layered the tag and added a piece of embroidery thread.

I was inspired to combine the cat with glitter glue fireworks by the Unruly Paperarts inspiration photo.  I had a hunt around and found a sentiment I liked which I printed out and then inked the torn edges with various distress inks to reflect the firework colours.

Snowbirds and Mercats

Hello.  Welcome.  Here's a couple more of the altered playing cards for Claudine's challenge.  I am a bit behind so these are the week 9 cards.  I posted week 10 the other day so only two weeks behind now LOL.  Go HERE for Claudine's post.  This challenge is such fun.  Hugz

Claudine had a card with circles scratched in it.  I didn't, but managed to add some in.  Obviously my gesso isn't too firmly attached to my playing cards.  Hope it stays put!!  I coloured with Dylusion sprays

I doodled, added some washi die cut shapes and High Hopes Mer-Cat.  How cool is he?  I absolutely loved the sentiment Claudine used and I think it really suits the image.

For my next card I used very dilute orange acrylic paint and then stencilled with VersaMagic Tea Leaves chalk ink.  The stencil is actually for decorating the top of a cake!!  Love it.

I really liked this but then I realised I had missed out adding the tissue and the inking!!  I made my own printed tissue using Kaisercraft Graffiti stamp and inked with Frayed Burlap distress ink.

I spent ages trying to find the right die and image and finally settled on Poppystamps Bountiful Sunflower cut from an orange metal sheet from Add a Little Dazzle.  Then I decided to have it hanging down!!  I added some burlap and lace to the bottom and High Hopes Snowbird.  He was destined for a Christmas scene but seemed to fit here very well.  I added the arrow, partly to cover up the gap, cos my sunflower was positioned a bit low!!, and partly cos I think this bird is a bit of a non-conformist.  Snowbird will be joining the fun at Poppystamps, where challenge #3 is Sparkle and Shine, and also the Dazzling Diva Challenge #54.

I am liking these very much.  Thanks for the inspiration Claudine, and thank you for taking the time to visit.  Hugz

Traditional Yule

Hello.  Welcome.  Well!!  Blogger just ate the whole of this post!!  Obviously my witty repertoire wasn't amusing enough.  Better stick to the craft.  Over at Cheery Lynn the theme this week is Tis the Season.  Well, so it is, and very soon it will be the day!!  Are you ready??  Me, not so.  But this is one card closer.

I used Cuttlebug Snowflakes embossing folder on the red card and stamped and embossed the Penny Black sentiment with black embossing powder.  I cut Cheery Lynn Southern Charm Valance and Snowflake 2 from gold glitter card.  I also cut some thin strips to use as a border.  The panel was mounted on a gold base card.

Snow Balls

Hello.  Welcome.  Over at Dreamweavers the challenge this month is quick and/or cute.  Well, we all need quick at this time of year.  Or am I the only one who hasn't finished all the cards??!!  And cute is always good in my book.  Managed to put this together in less than an hour.  That's pretty quick for me.  And it's cute, so win win...........

I used Dreamweavers Waves stencil and Imagination Crafts Silver Sparkle Medium on red card.  This glittery gorgeousness dries pretty fast.  Whilst waiting I stamped Unity Stamp Co. Snowpeep Kurt onto white card using Memento London Fog.  I cut it out using a sizzix circle die and also two smaller circles.  I edged all with London Fog ink.  I cut the waves panel with a wiggly line trying to  follow some of the pattern LOL.  Then,  inspired by Your Next Stamp sketch,  I arranged the circles behind the bottom of the panel and stuck that to the top of the panel.  Snowball sandwich.  The sentiment is from the Kurt set stamped on ripped paper with inked edges.  Then I layered the panel on pale grey and then a red base card.   Yeah, another xmas card *happy dancing*

Poor Morris

Hello.  Welcome.  I decided to try a technique I have been avoiding because of the safety issues.  Now I realise that unlike me most people don't go through life automatically risk assessing every situation.  My goodness, I sound like I am paranoid or something.  It's not that, it's just that I look at a piece of wood with nails in and think 'someones going to step on that', so I turn it over.  Or I see a hole and think' someone's going to put their foot in that', so I'll maybe kick some stones or soil in it.  Or if the hole is big enough 'a small child could fall down there'.  Or a guy on a cycle with his dog running alongside, 'hope the dog doesn't see a cat'.  'A cat up a tree'.

I went on a course once to do risk assessment, and I was hopeless at it, because of course 3 men on a ladder is a silly idea, and those two carrying that pane of glass around the corner are going to meet that bloke walking the other way, and that bucket of paint is going to fall off that ladder onto the other blokes head, and that's a really bad place to park your elephant, and so on.  But that's just common sense isn't it??  So when I saw the challenge at Marks Finest papers was use bleach I had immediate thoughts of a child sucking my bleached card, or it falling into the goldfish bowl and killing Morris, and other such dramas.  Ah. well......

So I stamped DRS Interlocking Squares onto brown card and embossed with Enchanted gold embossing powder.  This is a holographic powder in that when you heat it a bit more it starts to change colour, hence the purple highlights.  It also has glitter in it for added bling.

Then I added my bleach  Wow, that's a very pretty effect.  But because I still have misgivings about Morris I then washed my piece of card.  When I say washed I mean lots of water, soaked it.  It dried fine.  My only regret is that I didn't do more stamping cos I don't have a very big area.  So I cut it with my Sizzix ATC die.

I added a stamped image from Panduro Girls set.  The rose is a Hero Arts stamp.  I coloured with sharpies and added Wink of Stella clear on the rose and her clothes.
