Ship in a Bottle

Hello Nomad followers and friends and  an extra welcome to my new followers.  Our little band is growing slowly.  Thank you all for your support.

Over at PaperArtsy the new guest designer this week is  France Papillon.  Now at first this ATC may not look anything like France's projects, but after all it is inspired by, so I have used a bit of this, and a bit of that, and a bit of what I got.

I actually started out with a tag, and it was looking pretty good, but then it had a little accident and ended up seriously distressed.  I may reinvent it as something totally different at a later date.  So I found an ATC in my working pile that I had painted with white acrylic.  Really thickly painted, which is where this quite lovely texture came from.  Then I used my Tando Distorted Harlequin mask and DI Ocean Spray to cover the whole ATC.  Then when it had dried I filled in the white with DI Picked Rasberry using a makeup sponge.  When will I learn?  The Ocean Spray got all mixed up with the Picked Raspberry and I ended up with this rather nice shade of purple.   Ahh, the day is not complete without a happy accident, or two.  So I got the Harlequin mask and used VersaMagic Aegean Blue on one side.  It kind of took away the DI but I was quite happy with the result so that's OK.  I stamped the bottle from PaperArtsy LPC001 in black.

OK, so the ship isn't actually in the bottle.  I was feeling a bit nautical so I stamped the lady with the ship on her head from LPC001 and cut out just the ship.  Coloured with DI and mounted on sticky pads.  I've used white pen around the harlequin design to give more depth, as suggested by France.  I went around the edge with VersaMagic Ocean Depth and wrapped some funky wool around the end.  Then I stamped the shell x3 from LPC001 onto shrink plastic and mounted them on the wool.  I only had clear shrink plastic so I painted the backs with white, but I think this is better than using white because the design is under a nice glossy layer.   Looks a bit like a glazed tile.  A very small glazed tile.

It's great when things don't go quite as you planned but turn out to be something you like anyway. That's the joy of art and craft - it's a journey that can take you unexpected places! I love this tiny, nautical tile. Good luck with the challenges etc. x

Love how your ATC "evolved," Gail! Some days are like that, huh? Love the glazed tiles. You got a lot of art on this 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" format!!

Yep me too... the tiles are out of this world ! You can now call your happy accident a new shrink plastic technique.
