Number 52

Hello.  Welcome.  The end of the year is nigh.  I spotted my deck of altered playing cards.  Still unfinished.  But only just.  So I grabbed the last card I hadn't altered and checked with Claudine for inspiration.  Thanks Claudine.

I was just playing really.  I applied a rough layer of gesso to my playing card.  I used a chevron mask and versamark ink which I embossed with clear powder.  Then I inked with Color Box dye inks.  I like that the inks bring out the texture of the gesso.  I stamped Unity's Tess and coloured her with neon gel pens.  I fussy cut and mounted her on some scripty paper with a torn edge.  I added some neon arrows cos I hadn't used this Spellbinders die set.  No other reason really.  I doodled a border and I am sure it needs a sentiment, or a sassy comment, but it's late.  It's been a long day.  I am sure something will suggest itself at the appropriate time.  So glad to have my final playing card done.  Well, almost.  LOL  Just need to do the jokers!! ROFL

Thanks for dropping by.  Hugz

Gail, I'm SO glad I got mine out of the way. That was the hardest challenge I'd ever been in. I hated not having the products Claudine used, and it was hard making mine look even close to hers. You did a great job, and just in time for the new year.

I just saw your question on my blog post about tip-ins. A tip-in is a decorated page you add in some way to an altered book or journal. Some people add them to journal pages using such things as washi tape or decorative duck tape. To add them to an altered book, you traditionally cut two consecutive pages to within 1/2 inch of the gutter, then place either tape or glue along both edges. Add the decorated page and press so the glue or tape binds well. You have now tipped a decorated page into a book. Alternately, you can use a binding machine or rings to add them to a hand bound book. Thanks for asking, and if you have more questions, feel free to ask.

I admire you for finishing (almost) your altered playing cards, Gail. I had to bail about half way through, but they are still there on my table waiting for some attention. Claudine provided great inspiration for us all, but even belatedly for you for this great piece. Well done!
