Sometimes, in a Storm, a Friend is the Only Umbrella You Need

Hello.  Welcome.  Luckily I have no immediate need of a sympathy card.  So lets call this an empathy card.  Dear Lynell, as one chapter ends another begins.  Best wishes for the future.  May it be full to overflowing with good things.  Hugz

I really enjoyed working with this limited palette.  I love this sentiment stamp from Unity.  And Beach Girl, also a Unity stamp.  Love her as well.  I used Dreamweavers Waves stencil for my background.  I wanted it to represent change.  Hold on to your hat girl, there's a storm coming.  Hopefully good things will blow in.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Hello.  Welcome.  Hoping the showers will stay with April and the May flowers will bring sunshine with them.  Here's my April calendar pages for The Craft Barn challenge.  This month the theme was umbrella's and blue.  Well I love blue and umbrella's immediately made me think of Umbrella Man.  And here he is......

Here's my little heart mini-book/calendar.  The hearts were cut using Sizzix Scalloped Heart dies from some patterned paper.  This was baby themed paper so I avoided the baby and cut to encompass the lovely clouds, some of which are embossed and glittery.  I cut Umbrella Man from flowery MME paper and then sponged on black ink.  I tried to get a gradation from dark to light.  I wanted it to look like he was coming out of shadow into the light.  Very pleased with the effect.

I cut the butterflies using Cheery Lynn Mini Dimensional Butterflies die from the same floral card and backed them with dark blue paper.  I have edged the hearts and the calendar tab with Salty Ocean distress ink.

I love that the flowers can still be seen through the black ink on Umbrella Man's back.

Something For The Chicken Farmers

Hello.  Welcome.  I can hardly believe it's May tomorrow.  Wizz wizz old man time.  There is much weather for the time of year so while it rained I got busy with the Big Shot.

I used Die-namites Spring Nest and filled it with pretty eggs.  The dare is to use bright and cheery colours so I used a lovely spring green Bazzill card embossed with leaves.  I mounted on a yellow base card and mirrored these colours for the sentiment tab.  I cut my nest once from brown and twice from black and offset the black layers to give depth.  I used a piece of burlap under the nest and the sentiment, which is a Unity stamp

And A Star On Top

Hello.  Welcome.  Wanted to join in with the Rudolf Days challenge so I went two for one and made a one layer card with trees for OLCC

I cut a stitched base card and stamped PaperArtsy Merry Christmas with Peacock Feathers distress ink.  I masked the sentiment and stamped Hero Arts Trees and Birds in Cracked Pistachio and then used the matching sizzix embossing folder to add some texture.  Quick and fun.

The Man In The Mirror Is Never The Same

Hello.  Welcome.  The end of another month is nigh. Where does the time go??  Spring is a busy time here.  It has arrived, but these cold nights give more to do trying to make sure young plants are safe from frost.  Will be very glad when it warms up a bit more.   I was checking out the Waffle Flower challenge and was really struck by the framed mirror in the inspiration photo.

Then I found THIS lovely card by Vicki and a card was born.

I started by cutting some silver mirror card and some gold embossed card with a fancy die.  I stamped the kingfisher from Stamplorations Small Birds set and coloured with brusho's.

I cut a card base using stitched rectangle die and sploshed a bit of Ripe Persimmon around.  I added a layer of yellow printed fabric and the mirror.  The bird is mounted on some foam pads.  The sentiment is also a Stamplorations stamp.

My mirror works!!  Sort of!!!  I had stamped the bird of MME patterned card which is double sided.  To reverse my image I stamped on tissue and then stuck that to the back of the bird.

I decided not to colour the bird on the back.  After all, things never look the same in the mirror do they??  He looks a bit ghostly actually.  Maybe he from the other side.   Bwahahahaahahahaha

Do You?

Hello.  Welcome.  So glad you had time to drop by.  This one is for you.  Yes YOU.  To remind you that you are special.  Big hugz.

I cut my base card from MME patterned card using my SSS stitched rectangle.  I think I may need to skip mentioning that since this die appears to have become a obsession.  I am using it everywhere.  But the stitch detail is so fun!!  I stamped with Unity Stamp Co. Beautiful Soul and added some colour using Picked Raspberry as a water colour.  I stamped the sentiment from Unity's Big Dream set on the same card as the base and distressed the edge.  Take advantage of the core I say.  Love the highlight that came from just exposing the white core.  Then I backed it with some hot ink paper.

Reasons To Be Happy

Hello.  Welcome.  I was lucky enough to win some stamps from Bibi at Rubber Dance Art Stamps.  Thanks Bibi. I have finally found some time to get them inky.  So here's a little happy dancing to help the week along.

I used Rubber Dance Happy Dancers stamped on a pale blue panel I cut with SSS stitch die.  I added Watering Can archival straight from the pad for the floor and some artistic smudges.  Well, they are supposed to be artistic LOL.  I added some fresco finish Rose paint to the floors and mounted my panel on MME pink card with distressed edges.

My Thoughts Are in Nepal

Hello.  Welcome.  Sending prayers to Nepal and all those touched by today's earthquake.  I have been privileged to visit this area and meet some of the people and understand how difficult it will be to reach all those affected. Blessing on them all.

I stamped the CI sentiment 'wishing you butterfly mornings and wildflower afternoons' on a piece of white card.  Then I used Sizzix Swirly Dots embossing folder.  I cut Cheery Lynn Mini Dimensional Butterflies and coloured them in a rainbow of colours.  The Happy Mothers Day is a Unity stamp.  I mounted my panel on a metallic green base card.

Hello.  Welcome.  Black and white bonanza number three.

These two birds from STAMPlorations Small Birds set are so cute.  I stamped them on a panel cut with the SSS stitched die.  I masked them and stamped Live Love Laugh.  Then I used some of the stamps from Celebrate Artsy set to make the frame and ground the birds.  Then I mounted on a black base card.  All the stamps are STAMPlorations.

Nuts, or Just a Little Bit Crazy

Hello.  Welcome.  I am posting three black and white projects after happy mail gave Mr Mojo a major boost today.  I've used Mark's Finest Papers Nutcracker stamp after seeing Deepti's card.  I loved the bold black and white stripes on Deepti's card and was inspired to this...

I actually used a variation on the cut panel technique to make my stripes.  I cut a panel with the SSS stitched rectangle die and stamped Marks Finest Papers Nutcracker in black.  Then I measured 1.5cm sections and cut them away each side up to my stamped image.  Does that make sense?  Didn't think to take a picture.  Then I backed it with a black base card.  Voila, stripes.

Bearing Gifts

Hello.  Welcome.  It seems yesterday was Earth Day, but more importantly it was my birthday!  Yeah.  Happy Birthday to me.  I had planned to relax and do some crafting but best laid plans and all that.  I blame it on the cake!!  Hee hee.   I made a huge trifle and there's loads left so if you are passing do drop in LOL.

Then today became Happy Mail Day!!  Yeah.  I had a card from my CCC friend Emily in Ohio.  Thanks Emily, it's lovely.  I had some gorgeous stamps from Bibi at Rubber Dance Stamps.  Thanks so much Bibi for an awesome giveaway.  And I got Small Birds I had ordered from STAMPlorations.  They are so sweet and cute.  What a fun day.

So feeling inspired I would like to share a black and white bonanza with you.  Black and white cos that's the challenge over at Speedy Fox and Friends.  The bonanza begins with a card made using the sketch and Small Birds stamp from STAMPlorations.

I cut a white panel with SSS stitch rectangle die and stamped STAMPlorations kingfisher from the small birds set.  I masked the bird and stencilled some of the flowers from STAMPlorations Happy Flowers with black archival.  I drew the circle with a pen and stamped the sentiment from STAMPlorations Celebrate Artsy set.  I mounted the panel on a black base card.

New Boots, and Maybe a Hat

Hello.  Welcome.  Gosh, what happened to the warm spring weather??  Woke up to grey, foggy, definitely jacket weather.  Probably my own fault cos I distinctly remember saying it was hot, at least twice, yesterday.  This has obviously been taken as a complaint.  My apologies.  Can we have the sun back now???

I have discovered the Artist Trading Post.  I know..... Where Have I been?????...  The challenge is an ATC based on the original trading post.  Anyway, I have been trying with a few ideas the last few days and was getting nowhere fast.    I had been playing with some vintage images I found but this morning, with the deadline looming, I went in a totally different direction.

I cut my ATC from patterned kraft card.  I stamped the boy from Unity Stamp Co. Determination, also onto kraft card.  Nothing like a colouring challenge to wake you up.  I fussy cut him and added him to the ATC.  I cut three stetsons using the hat die from Cheery Lynn Arizona Cowboy set in shrink plastic, coloured and skrunk them.  The sign is handwritten.  I added a piece of twine coloured with distress ink around the edge and curled it on the ground by our little cowboy's feet.

Happy, Not Merry

Hello.  Welcome.  It's the hottest day of the year so far!  T-shirts and ice creams all round.  So I checked the xmas challenges LOL and came up with this......

I cut my card base using my Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle die, stamped Unity Stamp Co. Owl Pals, masked and stamped Hero Arts Stunning Snowflakes with Stormy Sky distress ink.  I did a little ink pad dance along the bottom with my VersaMagic Aegean Blue chalk ink and stamped the PaperArtsy sentiment, again with Stormy Sky.  This is my second attempt at this card LOL.  In the first version I tried colouring my Owl Pals and let's just say it got ugly.  Maybe I will try and fix them later......

Soap On A Rope

Hello.  Welcome.  I have been wanting to join in with the Arty Inklings challenge but despite a little extention to the deadline I am still managing to post on the wire.  That's me folks!!  The challenge is to create something from nothing, keep it small and use what comes to hand.

So this corrugated kraft box was to hand.  I think there was a bar of soap in it but it's also the perfect size for ATC's so I figured I'd get around to doing something with it one day.  Today is that day....

I added Wild Honey distress to the corrugations and some lace that was lying on the desk

I added a flower I had stamped the other day and cut out but not used.  STAMPlorations Bloom sketches coloured with Mustard Seed distress.  I stuck it on selectively so that I can still use the closure behind.

Then I went digging through my chuck dish.  That's a dish where I chuck things I have made and not used.  Found these cute little shrink plastic bugs and also a shrink plastic cat button I had made.  Now isn't he just adorable!!  Had to add him to the flower.  Oops, forgot to give him a bow.  Will see to that shortly.  The sentiment, also from the bloom sketches set, is stamped on a piece of acetate.   I think the cat and the bugs are Anita's stamps.   Must make me some more of those cat buttons.  Too cute!!

The British And Weather

Hello.  Welcome.  I am reminded of an evening when my nephew had to do some homework on stereotyping and my sister and I were trying to explain what it is.  We resorted to Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman jokes.  Can you believe my nephew had never heard any of those!  Obviously too low tech.  So we googled some.  Then in the interests of equal oppotunities we had a look at a few other country stereotypes.  Interesting.  I think it depends on whether you are on the inside, or on the outside looking in.  As a Brit living in a foreign land it's interesting to compare my stereotyping of England to a Norwegian's.  So when The Craft Barn set the theme Quintessentially English I settled on the weather.  I have learnt that it is not only the English who are obsessed with commentating on the weather.  But it is a very English thing to do.  Like tea.  Quintesssential.

This stamp set came free with a stamping magazine.  I stamped the girl, masked her and stamped the umbrella.  I coloured with watercolours.  I put her in bright spring colours and gave her a rainbow umbrella.  I cut around her boots and then used Simon Says Stamp stitch rectangle die to cut the panel.  I added the sentiments and mounted on a dark blue card.

Here's to Birthdays and Fun Ideas

Hello.  Welcome.  My bloggy friend Monika had a birthday this month.  She proposed we CASE one of her cards and link in to her blog for a chance to win some crafty moohlah.  What a fun idea.  So I decided to CASE this card

I decided to go purple and gold.  Purple cos Monika's blog is purple so I figured that was a colour she liked.  Also it's the Cheery Lynn Challenge theme this week LOL and since I was going to use their boots.......  Gold cos I was using it last night and it's still all over the desk.  And it goes well with purple.

I discovered yesterday that if I offset one cut line on the Simon Says Stamp stitched rectangle die I can cut a base card with the stitchy detail.  How slow am I??  All the panels on this card have been cut using this die with a little bit of fiddle to reduce the sizes.  I used the horseshoe from Cheery Lynn Arizona Cowboy set to add detail to the panel, instead of stencilling like Monika did.  The horseshoe represents good luck so I am sending you lots Monika.

I made my topper using gold mirror card and one of the boot dies from the Cheery Lynn Arizona Cowboy set.  I added a flower brad and a sticky greeting.  So, belated happy birthday Monika.  Hope you like my CASE.

Back to Basics

Hello.  Welcome.  There are a few challenges wanting embossing and I find myself thinking about beginnings.  I know a lot of us got into this crafting lark after grabbing a stamp, some ink and a piece of paper.  Add embossing powder and the ooh, wow factor is sure to hook you.  Then we move on to other things and our embossing powders get left on the shelf.  Now and again we reach for them and that first magic moment is resurrected.

I stamped Flourish from the Sizzix/Hero Arts set on black paper and embossed with gold powder.  I cut using Simon Says Stamp Stitched rectangle die, added a thin black border and mounted on a gold card.  Oooh, now I see a mass of possibilities.  Maybe just a big bold sentiment.  Maybe just a small one.  Or maybe...

A gold embossed tiger and sentiment from Marks Finest Papers Tiger set.  A bit busy maybe, but then again tigers are supposed to blend into the background.  Hugz

Tis The Season

Hello.  Welcome.  April is the season for birthdays in my family.  I am sure we all have a month when there are more than the usual number of celebrations.  I haven't been so good at getting ahead of the game so I thought I'd better get busy.

I made a birthday card with a tag on it!  Uh, yeah.....  All comments gratefully received cos I'm not sure about this one.  I wanted it CAS, but it didn't feel quite right.  I tried sequins, but we have never got along!  I did think about splats?  Then I settled on a rainbow border using distress inks.  The tag was coloured with promarkers, stamped with a Docrafts stamp and embossed with gold powder.  I added some funky wool.

Some Things Are Difficut To Say

Hello.  Welcome.  I have been thinking about the STAMPlorations sketch and also about sympathy cards.  Then DRS put up cool colours so I decided to combine and came up with this

I cut a mask using Spellbinders Label 31 set then stencilled using STAMPlorations Foiled Again and Watering Can archival onto a panel cut with Simon Says Stamp stitched rectangle die.  I edged the panel with black archival, added a bit extra for shadow, and a bit more, and there goes the CAS look!!  Smudges all over.  Quite like that LOL.  I stamped and black embossed the sentiment from STAMPlorations Bloom Sketches.  The flower is from the same set, stamped, fussy cut and coloured with distress stains.

Happy Little Wagster

Hello.  Welcome.  So glad you popped over.

I stamped DRS Doggy Dilemma on a white panel cut using Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle.  Then I extended the fence a bit using my black pen.  Then I remembered said black pen reacts badly with watercolours!!  So I tried Promarkers.  That works, although they did seem a bit patchy on a large area, and I have just noticed that I didn't colour that bit in under the fence!!!!  We are only human.......  Fixed!!  I die cut some cloud shapes and then lots of letters using Sizzix dies to write my sentiment.  Should have pushed a tail waggin up a bit cos it got a bit busy there with g tails and h and d uprights.  Ah well, as I said, only human.  Better go and add a bit more blue!!

Welcome To Batsville

Hello.  Welcome.  I have been pretty good with joining in the fun over at The Craft Barn this year.  As well as the monthly calendar challenge they are having fun weekly challenges as well.  This week it was House.  Uhhh, yeah.  And then, eureka moment.  Whilst digging through the stencils and masks earlier I came across Tando's Haunted House.  Bwahahahahahhaahahahaahahahha

I sponged Ripe Persimmon, Dusty Concord and Seedless Preserves for the moon.  I know, it looks more like a blood orange!!  The inked in the house and added some white details.  The bat is from Unity Stamp Co. Kooky, Spooky and Batty set.

Sun Flower Smiles

Hello.  Welcome.  I thought I'd better start writing this post, even though the project isn't quite finished.  The current challenge over at PaperArtsy is grunge paste.  Ooh, lovely texture and messy crafting all rolled into one.  Also I have been itching to ink up some new to me PaperArtsy stamps.  If I have to name a specific post I was inspired by then it was Kate's textured bloom creation.  But quite honestly, there's a fair amount of splat it on and see as well.  I decided to just play and see where it led me.

I started by applying Dreamweavers yellow texture paste onto a piece of card using a palette knife.  I just wanted some texture so I smeared it on then patted it with the knife to get rid of smooth bits.  Then I stamped using Archival Potting Soil and a PA stamp from ID04.

I used grunge paste through a stencil.  When it was dry I added Potting Soil ink to highlight.  The stamped embelishment was a bit close to the colours so I smeared on Cracked Pistachio distress  ink.  Oooh look, mint choc chip.  That would be pistachio for most of europe.  I am always fooled when I see green ice cream with chocolate bits and am expecting mint, and get pistachio.  But of course that has nothing to do with this project.

My flower is a stamp from PA Petals 2 set, as is the sentiment, which I stamped on cotton fabric.  I made the flower stem using Tando bamboo stencil and coloured grunge paste.

Did You Ever Have One Of Those Days Dahling

Hello.  Welcome.  Well, it's been one of those days.  Culminating in one of those cards where every little thing seemed just a bit more of a disaster than the previous one.  Still, perseverance and plain stubbornness won the day.  I hope......

This actually started life yesterday as another go at the fun cut out panel technique.  I was going to enter it over at the MFP challenge but then my friend rang and said "want to ride?"  Beautiful evening yesterday so this little sweetie got abandoned on the desk.  I did take a picture of the first stage this time LOL.  I cut a panel using Simon Says Stamp stitched die.  Then I stamped High Hopes Boo Crew Border and cut out my panel.  I like this technique cos it actually saves some fussy cutting but you still get the layered effect.

OK, so this is the finished card and as you can see it has changed in appearance from the above picture!!  I had a little accident with my gold pilot marker whilst colouring the star and had to remove the top panel!!  Just go with it I say.  I coloured my image with a mix of Promarkers and watercolour pencils.  I backed the Boo Crew with Cheery Lynn Spider Web Mesh Border.  The flowers were cut using Cheery Lynn BAF#1 and Tea Rose Small dies with a mini brad for the centers.  The two flowers on the end are covering up the fact that the black pen I used is not waterfast!!!!  Will be remembering that!  I have been trying out my handwritten sentiments again!!  Need to work on getting the letters the same size!  Mounted the whole thing on a piece of MME patterned paper.  Went a little crazy around the edge with the black archival ink pad and added an orange card base.

Thanks for your visit.  Hope you are having a crafty weekend.  Hugz

Happy Friday

Hello.  Welcome.  It's sunny, it's warm, it's Friday.  Who could ask for more.  Over at Unity it's also Friends With Flair day.  Here's a little something.  Kinda like something I made previously.  But different in it's own special way.

I made this background at the same time as I made THIS ONE, so look there if you want the step by step.  I stamped Unity Stamp Co There Was a boy onto white tissue paper and coloured him.  If you are doing this technique use white tissue, it keeps the colours clean, and you want the thin stuff without a wax coating.  Then I added a frog from a serviette and the little girl from Unity's First Love set.

Here's the finished framed piece.  I generated the sentiment on the computer and I have also gone along the lines of the frog with a thin black pen to give him more definition and make him look a bit more like a stamp.

Head And High Heels Above The Rest

Hello.  Welcome.  I have been playing around with a fun technique proposed by MFP, a cut out panel card.  A tutorial can be found HERE.  I decided to play with Marks Finest Papers Paper Doll Paige.

I stamped Paige on a piece of patterned paper and cut away a panel behind her.  I paper pieced her outfit.  I added some black layers behind my two panels before mounting on a hot pink base card.  I was going to leave it like this and add a sentiment later but......

She looked kinda sassy so I gave her a sassy sentiment.  Maybe someone should make this into a stamp cos quite honestly my poor hand is feeling very tired after scribbling all those letters.
